Have you ever felt like you are an outcast, or wonder what the hell is going on with you? Have your friends ever looked at you and tell you “you got issues.” If either of the above rings close to home then you are in great company. Let me help you out, we all got issues. Yes, all of us struggle with something that qualifies as “issues.” Whether rich or poor, we all have issues. So, go ahead take a deep breath and relax, because in spite of all your issues you are still valuable in the eyes of God. You might ask how can a messed-up person like me be valuable? Simple, it is not what you do or don’t qualifies you, but the mere fact that you were created in the image and likeness of God.
David, one of the most messed up man ever to live God said of him; he is a man after my own heart. David an anointed man of God and king, was a murderer, fornicator and a hothead. God declared that the sword would never depart from his house because of his murderous acts. His life was so filled with blood and war that when he desired to build a house for the Lord, God told him no because his life was of too much blood. Yet this was the same man God declared “He is a man after my own heart.” David was so messed up that he couldn’t even deal with his own family issues. When Absalom his son killed his own brothers for raping his sister, instead of dealing with him, David ignored him. He avoided talking to Absalom because he had his own daddy issues. David was rejected by his father, Jessie. Samuel the prophet was sent by God to Jessie house to anoint one of his sons as the next king of Israel. He thought David to be so insignificant that he didn’t see it necessary to include him in the presentation for Samuel to anoint the king. Let’s talk about issues. His brothers hated him and thought he was pompous. They treated him badly when he came to inquire of their well-being during the time Goliath came against the army of Israel. King Saul even became jealous of him after he defeated Goliath and fought against the Philistines, the people began to chant “Saul has slain his thousands and David ten his thousands.” David had a lot of issues to deal with.
God transformed the life of a notorious murderer and persecutor of the early church to preach the gospel to the gentiles. Talk about being messed up, a man with issues, Saul (Apostle Paul) killed Christian because he thought he was doing God a favor. He believed he was doing something right. He was a religious zealot. It seemed as if his head was screwed on wrong. Nonetheless, what seemed hopeless to man, God used for His glory.
Once again, if you think you got issues you are in you are in great company and the perfect candidate for God’s glory! God uses every situation in our life to mold us. He uses our scars, flaws, faults, insecurities, and failures to process, equip and empower us to live for Him. He is the God who preserved David for kingship, transformed Saul for apostleship, and prepared Joseph to rule over the land of Egypt before the famine to save his people. There is no issue in your life too small or great for God to use. Where you are feeling rejected, angry, bitter, ashamed, beaten or trodden by life God has the power to bring out the value in you.
We can see the evidence of God’s mighty power at work throughout the Scriptures, but you may say that’s good but what can God do for me? The good news is God, is no respecter of person. He never changes, He is the same God yesterday, today and forever more. The might works He did in the lives of His people throughout the Scriptures He can and will do for you if you only believe. Jesus said, anything you ask the Father in My name, you will receive if you believe. God will take your life and transform it if you allow Him. He will take your ashes and give you beauty. Transform your mourning into dancing, He will cause your sun to shine again. If you believe all things are possible with God He will teach you to do the impossible because you are still valuable in His eyes.
God is calling you to a better place. A place of freedom, a place of security and assurance in Him. He wants to show you who He created you to be in this life. Will you let Him bring out your worth today?
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
